REVIEW: SHADOWSHAPER by Daniel José Older

Shadowshaper
Daniel José Older

Cassandra Clare meets Caribbean legend in SHADOWSHAPER, an action-packed urban fantasy from a bold new talent.

Sierra Santiago was looking forward to a fun summer of making art, hanging out with her friends, and skating around Brooklyn. But then a weird zombie guy crashes the first party of the season. Sierra's near-comatose abuelo begins to say "No importa" over and over. And when the graffiti murals in Bed-Stuy start to weep.... Well, something stranger than the usual New York mayhem is going on.

Sierra soon discovers a supernatural order called the Shadowshapers, who connect with spirits via paintings, music, and stories. Her grandfather once shared the order's secrets with an anthropologist, Dr. Jonathan Wick, who turned the Caribbean magic to his own foul ends. Now Wick wants to become the ultimate Shadowshaper by killing all the others, one by one. With the help of her friends and the hot graffiti artist Robbie, Sierra must dodge Wick's supernatural creations, harness her own Shadowshaping abilities, and save her family's past, present, and future.

I know that we are not suppose to judge books by their covers, but this cover is FABULOUS!! It really fits with the story and it actually got my attention from the shelf. It actually screamed at me and to pick it up and read it!! So, I had no choice but give it a try

I have a whole new prospective on art. This book was phenomenally refreshing and one that has never been replicated before. It's full of adventure and surprises beyond my wildest dreams. This book made me actually turn each and every page in it. I had a lot of trouble putting this book down and I even found myself daydreaming about this book. I loved how this author brought forth an amazingly strange, yet enjoyable Paranormal world that I did not expect. I loved all the ethnic backgrounds in this story and how each one were friends and loved each other, even with the prejudices in the book. I borrowed this book from my local library and I highly suggest that you see if your library has it and if not have them order it. You will not regret it!!

REVIEW & Pre-Order: Inspired by Frost by Alicia Rades

Inspired by Frost
Alicia Rades

Crystal Frost has grown accustomed to the supernatural, but months of passive paranormal activity have left her believing her mother’s wedding will be a breeze. That changes when a ghost named Melissa shows up in Crystal’s dressing room while she’s picking out her maid of honor dress. Crystal takes on this new psychic mission without question, immediately determined to save Sage, the girl Melissa warned her about. But how do you save a girl from a deadly fate when you don’t know how she’s going to die?

How do you save a girl from a deadly fate when you don't know how she's going to die?....

Wow, I think this story is by far my favorite one yet! Crystal was yet again, an amazing character. She is getting  better with her abilities as the stories progress. I love how the author added some new twists to this story that I sure not expecting when I started reading. The author added a special twist to Sage and her mental problems. I really never saw this coming and I love to be surprised by an author's style of writing. I highly recommend this story, though I will admit to be ready for the feelers in this story.

REVIEW: Being Medusa by A. Lynn Powers

Being Medusa
A. Lynn Powers

WENEEDDIVERSITY

I must start off by saying that the cover of this book really doesn't capture what the character looks like in the book. I look at the cover and get thrown off once I started reading the book.

But aside from that....

WOW, what an amazing read! This book was extremely hard to put down. This author has a way with words that will keep you in suspense and wanting to read more. I love how the author took a Greek Mythological creature and threw her into modern day society. Medusa was an awesome character!! She went through a lot hardship in this book, but she just kept going. I know what its like to be made fun of or teased or put down because you are different and so I could relate with this character on a personal level, even though I never had snakes growing out of my head. I am extremely excited to read more about Medusa and what will happen next to her. Fair warning, be prepared for a shocking ending too. I highly recommend this story to all to read and remember that just because someone else is different then you doesn't give you the right to be a bully!!

REVIEW: FAKE IT by VICTORIA KINNAIRD

FAKE IT
THE KESWICK CHRONICLES #1
VICTORIA KINNAIRD

Fake It (The Keswick Chronicles #1)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

#WENEEDDIVERSITY
As everybody knows by now, my favorite genre is YA Paranormal, but from time to time, you can find me jumping out of my comfort zone and trying other genres.

I usually have the right words when reviewing each individual book, whether it be good or bad....But I just can't bring out the words I want to express. This is a different read compared to all the other books I have read so far this year. I was captivated from the first chapter and I loved how the author started the story off. It was intriguing and beautifully well written.

Jack.
What can I say....He is shy, quiet, keeps to himself, and his loyal to the friends he has. He is constantly picked on for being gay, but he has this incredible way of making music with his guitar. I found that I was drawn to this character right away. I could feel how he felt just flowing off the pages as I read his story. He is a phenomenal character and I loved him.

JJ.
Well, JJ is the popular, rich, parties, sleeps with every girl, and the all around bad boy. At first, I was made to hate this character, but as I kept reading on in the story, I found that he has some deep, dark secrets that I didn't see coming. He is also a great musician and I loved the relationship between Jack and JJ in the end. They really made an awesome couple.

To tie up my review, this story was by far my favorite M/M and the best LBGT story of 2016 that I have read as of yet. This book gets my five book approval and more. I give this author a standing ovation for hitting on such a difficult topic for teens and young adults.
