DOUBLE REVIEW: Fallout Series by Becky Doughty

Fallout Series

All the Way to Heaven

Anica Tomlin, business major, has just learned that the man she's been planning her future around, her Global Finance professor, already has a beautiful wife and family. Ani cashes in her graduation gift to herself a little early a trip to Tuscany but from the moment she boards the wrong train in Pisa, her plans for solitude and self-indulgence begin to unravel around her.

When a bicycle accident thrusts Ani into the skilled hands of the dashing Dr. Cosimo Lazzaro, she reluctantly accepts his invitation to recover in his family's country villa, perched on a hilltop surrounded by the Lazzaro olive groves. But it's been a black year for olive growers all over Italy, and generations of tradition are being put to the test like never before.

Ani is swept up in the drama of life in Tuscany, the convergence of old and new, and the passions that drive people to pursue the desires of their hearts. Just as Ani begins to get her feet under her again, an unexpected turn of events leaves her doubting the very existence of happily-ever-after, unless she can learn to trust the desires of her own heart.

Although "All the Way to Heaven" is a stand-alone novel, it is the first book in The Fallout Series, a collection of sweet contemporary romances that follow characters featured in the first book."

All the Way to Heaven (Fallout Series #1)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am a lover of YA Paranormal but from time to time, I will leave my comfort zone to read another genre...

At first, I thought this book started off really slow and it took me awhile to get into it, but once it picked up a bit, I really enjoyed the book. I loved the setting around Italy and I loved Ani and her adventure that started off quite rocky but ended up, mi amor....The characters are lovable and unforgettable and a wonderful romantic read for all romantics out there. I am giving this book five stars because the author did a fabulous job with the story line and the amazing journey Ani was on to run away from 'REAL' life was something I could relate to. So, even though it started off slow, it was worth it to keep reading!!

A Light in the Dark

On stage, Tish Ransome sings about heartache and passion, betrayal, and about love gone wrong… but she knows very little about any of it in real life. The rockstar princess who swears like a pirate—literally—is loved and adored by family, friends, and fans alike, and her world is filled with good things, her future bright.

Behind the scenes, however, trouble is brewing. When Tom, her best friend and co-founder of the Marauders, tells her he's leaving the band after graduation, Tish must find a new wingman to step into Tom's hard-to-fill shoes. The moment she hears Sebastian Jeffries play, she knows he's the one.
Yet with Sebastian comes a taste of the things Tish only writes about, and she can't resist the lure of the tortured artist. Sebastian, likewise, is drawn to Tish's brilliance, but like a moth that hovers too close to the flames, is he killing himself just to be near her? Can Tish save Sebastian before it's too late, or will he pull her down into the darkness with him?

A Light in the Dark (Fallout #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As everybody knows by now, I am a fan of YA Paranormal, but I do have a tendency to step outside of my comfort zone and read other genres.

I enjoyed reading the first book in this series, so of course, I was curious on what this second book was about....

I must say that this is the perfect cover and title for this story. This author has captured my attention just by reeling me in with the cover alone. The title was magnificently chosen to fit the story, yet not giving anything away....

Onward, for my review.
There were times where I thought the story drug out a little too long, but the plot and storyline was phenomenally well written. This book actually ripped my heart out, stomped on it a few times, and then put it back into place...I laughed and cried throughout this entire story. The battle between Tom and Tish lead us off from the beginning. The raw emotions between them and the their feelings for one another being so different really pulled at my heart strings and made me feel so bad for the two of them.

Tish
Tish is a hardcore rocker through and through. She can sing, write songs, and play a mean guitar!! I fell in love with this character from the beginning!! She is also spontaneous, lovable, and has a HUGE heart. I can't help but say that Tish is an awesomely unforgettable main character of the story. I loved how the author made you feel as if you were that character in the story. Every emotion Tish felt, I felt and I imagined myself as the character and not the sidelines reader.

Tom and Sebastian
Both of these characters made me mad and yet sad for the both of them. They are both mysterious and they both love Tish and are constantly battling each other for Tish's attention and love back. These two boys really made a lot. I hated the fact that the were constantly competing for Tish's love and affection. I did love the story of Sebastian and how his dark side was so twisted and not something that I really saw coming. I loved how he protected Tish and I kept wanting and needing to read more about his life. I loved how the author brought forth the love and support Tish had with her family, band members, and friends. It's an incredible way to keep you wanting to read more and I love how the author could intertwine the music world and the world of a normal young adult and the the ups and downs presented to Tish throughout the story.

This is for sure, a tissue, make that a box, worthy story that will tug at your heartstrings and yet make you fall for each character throughout the book. I highly recommend this story to all to read and fall for.

REVIEW: THE TIMELY DEATH TRILOGY by Shannon A. Thompson

Minutes Before Sunset
Book 1

Two destinies. One death.

"Her kiss could kill us, and my consent signed our death certificates."

Eric Welborn isn't completely human, but he isn't the only shade in the small Midwest town of Hayworth. With one year left before his eighteenth birthday, Eric is destined to win a long-raging war for his kind. But then she happens. In the middle of the night, Eric meets a nameless shade, and she's powerful—too powerful—and his beliefs are altered. The Dark has lied to him, and he's determined to figure out exactly what lies were told, even if the secrets protect his survival.

Jessica Taylor moves to Hayworth, and her only goal is to find more information on her deceased biological family. Her adoptive parents agree to help on one condition: perfect grades. And Jessica is distraught when she's assigned as Eric's class partner. He won't help, let alone talk to her, but she's determined to change him—even if it means revealing everything he's strived to hide.

Minutes Before Sunset is the first book in The Timely Death Trilogy.

'Two destinies. One death.'

I got this book for two reasons. One reason is it's free on Amazon and two it's a Clean Teen Publishing book and I love reading anything from Clean Teen Publishing. So two awesome hits at once!!

I was actually blown away by this authors style of writing. I must start off by saying that when I started this book and read through the first couple of Chapters, I must confess that I was totally lost and I began to wonder if it would be that way throughout the entire book, so with much hesitation, I kept on reading. I am so glad that I did too. It's a new and refreshing look into a phenomenal paranormal world beyond anything I have ever read. It blew me away at the reaction and the story between the two main characters. Though, at times, I kept getting slightly confused with the death of Jessica Taylor's parents and how that all came together and I have found by reading this book, the author loves to keep me in suspense to keep me reading and guessing, which I love in a story. I love the plot and I fell in love with the characters. This is a fabulous read for all ages and one I highly recommend reading. I am excited to dive my nose into the next book, Seconds Before Sunrise and see where this author takes us. This is an author to watch out for!!

Seconds Before Sunrise
Book 2

Two nightmares. One memory.

“Chaos within destiny. It was the definition of our love.”

Eric has weeks before his final battle when he’s in an accident. Forced to face his human side, he knows he can’t survive if he fights alone. But he doesn’t want to surrender, even if he becomes the sacrifice for war.

Jessica’s memory isn’t the only thing she’s lost. Her desire to find her parents is gone and so is her confidence. But when fate leaves nightmares behind, she decides to find the boy she sees in them, even if it risks her sanity.

Seconds Before Sunrise (Timely Death, #2)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If one dies, so does the other....

This author had some crazy turns of events that I was not expecting while reading this story. The craziness is not bad thing at all, but I never thought the author would take the route she did. This story is phenomenally well written and my attention was captured by the first sentence. I love how the story picked up where the first one ended and how she twisted the plot to keep it interesting. I love the characters even more than I did in the first story. Jessica is still my favorite character. I love her strong whit and amazing strength even though she knew there was a part of her missing. I also loved how the author showed Jessica's vulnerability and how Eric still needed to protect her. I just love how strong the love is between Jessica and Eric. And even though I had it figured out from the first story, my suspicions about Darthon have been confirmed.

I am excited about the third book coming out and I can't wait to see where this author will take the story. This is an author to keep a watchful eye on.

Clean Teen Publishing provided me with a digital ARC copy of the book for review purposes only as part of the Clean Teen Publishing Elite Reviewers Team. No remuneration was exchanged.

Death Before Daylight
Book 3

Two eternities. One ending.

"Harmony would only come with destruction."

The moment Eric and Jessica are reunited, they are torn apart. After the appearance of a new breed of shades and lights, the powers shift for the worse, and all three descendants find themselves face-to-face in the Light realm. When Darthon is in control, the last thing everyone expects is to finally hear the truth.

While Jessica learns the reason of her creation, Darthon's identity is exposed to Eric—and only Eric—and Eric can no longer defend himself. With the eternities of the Light and the Dark resting on Jessica's shoulders, she must choose who she will be—a light or a shade.

In the end, someone must die, and the end is near.

Wow, what a shocking story!! So many things happened in this story that I was not expecting!! This author has really outdone herself with this story. All the twists and turns and the suspenseful surprises really had me addicted to this book from beginning to end and I loved every minute of this wild roller coaster ride of events. I loved Jessica and Eric's love for one another and no matter what got into their way, they still loved one another and their bond, NO SPOILERS, is just phenomenal. You just dont find true love like that anymore. It's a wonderful Paranormal love story and one I highly recommend, but you have to read the first two to get the whole picture of these two phenomenal characters.

This author not only gets a five book review from me but a standing ovation for her incredible writing style. I will be keeping my eye out for more from this awesome author.

Overall, this is a fabulous trilogy and one I highly recommend to all reader to enjoy, and I hope you fall in love with the stories and the characters as much as I did!! Go and purchase your copies today and happy reading, everybody!!
